Sunday Sweet Sunday

We had a relatively lazy day today. We did my favorite Sunday morning things: watched Sunday Morning, read the paper (the actual paper), and watched the Sunday morning political shows.

By early afternoon we were in Bar Harbor doing our laundry. Soooooo exciting… ;-(

But the afternoon got better. We met with one of Joseph’s clients, who has become a friend (Joan), and her boyfriend (Peter) at Peter’s house in Northeast Harbor. His place is almost too charming!

The house was once the servants quarters to a larger estate. But, when the owner sold the estate, she moved into this house. Peter bought it in 1975!! It is a fairly small place (though it would be exactly the right size for me and Joseph!!!) and it’s right on Somes Sound. We had some wine on the deck, which sits on the rocky coast. As we chatted, I could hear the water lapping softly against the rocks. The sound was so peaceful for my soul and the conversation was happy.

We left Joan and Peter and went to Southwest Harbor where we met another one of Joseph’s clients at a Mexican Restaurant called XYZ. Cheez, the food was incredible. I can’t believe we’d never eaten there. I had 2 Margueritas, a 10-alarm chili appetizer and an entrée called C&C. I don’t remember what that stands for, but it was one chili relennos and 3 specially prepared shrimp. For dessert Joseph ordered the XYZ pie (ice cream) and shared it. Soooo good…not Mt. Desert ice cream, but definitely exceptional! Of course, after 2 Margueritas, any dessert would have tasted good, but this was something else!

Dinner was fun and interesting. We had a good time. Joseph has the best clients in the world!

What are the Maine Diaries?

The Maine Diaries is a fun look at my annual adventure to New England where I unwind from normal life and reconnect with myself.

I was captivated by the Maine Coast on my first trip there in the late 90’s. In the years since, I’ve traveled up and down the coast from Kittery to Calais but I spend most of my Maine time Downeast. I love the adventures I have and the chance to unwind from the world and restore my inner clarity. I chronicle my experiences in The Maine Diaries.

Maine Diaries

Every year Annmarie Kelly embarks on a trip to Maine where she reflects on her life, the years challenges and successes while seeking solace and adventure in the beautiful Northeast wilderness.
